Bio
Eve Mero is a Southern California designer and artist whose work has been influenced by the multiple interests in her life. Her earliest focused endeavor was in the field of music, in which she studied piano, voice, theory, and music literature. Later, her interests turned more towards the areas of history and English literature. She briefly taught world history and then piano. After that, she took as many classes as she could in art history. This was followed by an intense period of training and practice in the field of architectural and interior design.
In her work as an architectural designer, her self-styled approach was distinctive for the ways it incorporated the rhythms of poetry and music in patterns of colored inlaid wood veneer on cabinetry, and in multi-colored granite mosaic walls in swimming pools, bathrooms and barbecues. It was inevitable that formal studies in studio art came next. At first her work was realistic because that is typical in the study of art. She soon found herself experimenting to find a means of expression that felt more genuine to her. She explored multiple mediums, including painting in oil and acrylic, printmaking, collage, etching and patinas on metal, digital manipulation, and most recently, oil and cold wax on wood panels.
In a search for energy and fullness in her art, she brings together opposites. Her background in music contributes to her desire to express herself with gesture and rhythm, and the discipline of her studies in architectural and interior design bring in a need for control and logic. Her art explores the tension between these two poles of human experience and seeks to find a harmonious, yet vital cohabitation.
Eve Mero has exhibited in galleries and museums and is in numerous personal collections. Her work has been featured in the Los Angeles Times, Sunset Magazine, and a book by Knapp Press and an album cover.
Her iconic girl image has appeared in numerous forms and media, including the screenprint Violent Society that was selected by UNESCO as the featured graphic for its Paris Symposium on “Violence and its Causes.”
